There are a multitude of grape types, each as diverse and colorful as the next. You have purple, maroon, deep red, light red the list goes on. Each variety brings a unique shade of red to red wine and the various colors you can see in wine stores are a direct result of the many grapes used in worldwide wine-making processes. An individual wine's color depends largely on what type of grape was used to make it and how long the skin was left in with the juice before being extracted. What Are The Different Types of Red Wine? There are many different types of red wine but they are usually judged by their body. For example, a light-bodied wine is not too demanding on the mouth and taste buds. It goes well with food that is flavor intensive. A good example of this kind of wine is the French red wine Beaujolais Nouveau. On the other hand, there is the medium-bodied red wine which is a slightly heavier wine (e.g. Shiraz, Merlot, etc.) but not as heavy and as powerful as a full-bodied wine like French Bordeaux wines and Italian dry red wine like the Super Tuscans. Full-bodied wines are denser and have higher alcohol content. How Is Red Wine Served? You may have noticed at some parties, tasting events, or formal gatherings that "dry red wine" is served in a particular glass. It is said that an oval or egg-shaped glass that narrows as it reaches the top(compared to a slim, tall glass) is the best way to appreciate dry red wine as it allows the wine to breathe and swirl better. The best temperature to serve dry red wine is 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit. Serve it too hot and the alcohol can be overly emphasized; too cold and it will taste bitter.Red Wine What Are The Different Varieties? There are a number of dry red wines available from all over the world from dry dry red wine to full-bodied wine to age old wine. Coffee beans are roasted to bring about the right balance between the acidity and sweetness of the beans. In other words, the process of roasting the coffee beans brings out their inner characteristics and flavor. The level to which a coffee is roasted pretty much decides how the coffee will taste upon brewing. For instance, coffee beans that undergo light roasting usually have a light bodied and sweet tasting brew; whereas, a full bodied coffee with a chocolaty flavor is dark roasted. Roasting coffee beans effects certain physical and chemical changes in the beans. These changes include the loss of moisture, caramelizing, change of color and expansion of the coffee beans. As the beans start to lose moisture and expand, they make a popping sound, which is termed as a crack in the coffee industry. There are three basic levels of roasting as far as coffee beans are concerned. The Light Roast as mentioned before is used to derive a milder coffee, often sweet tasting. Then comes the Medium Roast that is the most commonly used roasting level for coffee beans. Here, roasted coffee beans are done at the second crack. The next and last level of roasting coffee beans is known as Dark Roasting where beans are roasted till they appear oily on the surface; which happens well beyond the second crack. Such roasting generally gives a very full bodied and strong brew. Apart from the levels of Roasting, there are three main methods of coffee bean roasting. One is an art, the second a science while the third is a combination of art and science. Art Roasting is that technique of coffee roasting which has to be mastered through years and years of practice. Here the roast master can tell if a coffee is roasted to perfection simply by using his senses of sound, sight and smell. On the other hand, Science Roasting is where the roast master decides if a coffee is ready based on scientific data. Here the roast master looks at various data including time and temperature in order to ensure that there is uniformity of color among the different batches of roasted coffee beans. The third technique for roasting coffee beans is a fusion of both art as well as science. It is generally used for mass producing coffee beans. Once the coffee beans are roasted, another process known as cupping is undertaken to ascertain the quality of the roasted beans. Here the coffee is tasted in a similar manner to tasting tea. In this process, roasted coffee bean samples are extracted and measured in different cups. After that coffee beans from each cup are ground separately and then steeped in boiling water. Upon doing this the coffee grounds rise to the top and trap the aroma underneath. The cupper then removes the coffee grounds and smells the aroma. Last, the coffee is tasted and graded on various characteristics such as flavor, body, aroma, acidity and any defects in taste. This step concludes the coffee bean roasting process, after which it is up to you, the coffee consumer to decide which type of roasted coffee beans suit your palate the best.
Wine is an alcoholic drink that is made from the fermentation of untouched grape juice. Red and white wine are the most popular types. Dry white wine has only a small amount of remaining sugar in it, yet sometimes has a habit of tasting sweet when in fact it is not.The most popular white wines originated in France and Germany, the French types being Sauterne and Chablis and the German types being Reisling (also known as Hock or Rhine) and Moselle. They are all characterized by their lightness, delicacy of flavor and by their light straw color. As well as being produced in Europe, these white wines are also produced in the United States in the coast counties of California. In the eastern US, dry white wines are made from several varieties of grapes developed in the Finger Lakes District of New York State, and Ohio and New Jersey also make them.MoselleThis is the most delicate of the German dry white wine, and the most famous brand of this kind is the Bernkasteler Doctor. These wines are pale and flower scented, and because of their fresh acid and low alcoholic content, they are easily digested and they are usually served cold.RieslingMost dry white wines of Germany are known as Hock wines, and are produced in three districts known as the Rheingau, Rheinhessen and Rheinpfalz. Perfect Riesling wine is of a slightly greenish color with a smooth acid bitterness and a scent of the best German white wines. It is again best served cold. The dry white German wines are usually called Rhine wine. California Rieslings are also beautiful wines.ChablisThis is a dry white wine with a straw color. Not a lot is made each year because the area In France where it is created is quite small, therefore only a limited amount reaches countries who order it and it is very expensive. It is best served cold. California Chablis is made primarily with Golden Chasselas and Burger grapes grown in the coast counties.SauterneThis is a French wine that is claimed by many wine drinkers to be the finest produced anywhere in the world. The vineyard where this wine is made is only two hundred acres, therefore the output is very small every year. Its popularity is very large and only small quantities reach America. Some Sauternes are quite sweet while others are completely dry. Sweet Sauterne is one of the most popular table wines and has a full and intense syrupy flavor. Some great Sauternes are produced in California in the Livermore Valley. http://www.about-wine-making.info
